On 30 of August 2015 the dream of a few generations in Plovdiv became a reality - the multifunctional sports venue "Kolodrum Plovdiv" was officially opened!
It was a remarkable event that attracted more than 6 000 people. Among the official guests were the Minister of Sports Krasen Kralev, the vice president of the Russian Cycling Federation Alexander Gusyatnikov, as well as famous Bulgarian sportsmen - Siyka Kelbecheva, Stoyanka Gruycheva, Yordan Yovtchev, Nikolay Buhalov, Staniliya Stamenova, Luybo Ganev, Svilen Neykov, Konstantin Papazov, the national volleyball team, football stars and many others.
The official ceremony began right after the end of the World Taekundo Championship that the venue hosted. Minister Kralev and the mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev cut the symbolic ribbon.
"Ladies and gentlemen, dear citizens of Plovdiv, I am thrilled to share this moment with you. A moment that took years of waiting. Now we have an incredible venue, an indoor velodrome, the most modern in Eastern Europe.
Thank you for being here. This gives me confidence that our champions and the titles that we will win in this venue will meet the joy of the Bulgarian people. And that you will give our sportsmen the power to win, because this is how great history is written, both for sports and the venue.
I trully hope that this venue will boost not only the Bulgarian cycling, but all the other 25 types of sport that can be practised here."
- Krasen Kralev
The venue also hosted the finish of the Bulgarian Cycling Tour and a track cycling competition for the Cup of Plovdiv. The audience was also entertained by the National volleyball team, the great Yordan Yovchev and a variety of music artists.
