Plovdiv has officially won the prestigious title of "European Capital of Sport for 2028."

The city’s mayor emphasized that this success is the result of a long-term, consistent policy, well-prepared documentation, and a strategy that unites the efforts of the municipal administration, sports legends, educational institutions, and local sports clubs.

Kostadin Dimitrov expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to this achievement—from the Olympic champions and stars who bring renown to Plovdiv, to every school and federation that supported the bid.

"Our goal is to make sports accessible to everyone—to every single child—to bridge the gap between education and sports academies, and to establish a system for the regular health monitoring of students," stated Mayor Kostadin Dimitrov.
