The summer season brings an increased risk of fires due to high temperatures, drought and strong winds. Most incidents are due to human negligence. Here are the basic safety rules you should follow to protect yourself and nature.
Behaviour in the forest and in nature:
Light a fire only in designated areas. Use only specially built fire pits. Never leave a fire unattended. Even a light wind can carry sparks over long distances. Extinguish the fire completely before leaving. Pour plenty of water over the fire and cover it with soil. Do not throw unextinguished cigarette butts or matches. Dry grass catches fire in a matter of seconds. Do not leave glass bottles in the grass. Glass heated by the sun acts as a magnifying glass and causes a fire.
Safety at home and at the cottage:
Clean up dry vegetation in the yard. Mow the grass around the house to limit the spread of a possible fire. Do not burn stubble and waste. Burning dry branches and rubbish in the garden in the summer is absolutely prohibited. Be careful with barbecues at home. Place it away from wooden fences, sheds and dry trees. Check the serviceability of air conditioners. Overloaded electrical installations during the heat often lead to short circuits.
