Cycling track

The cycling track is the hallmark of Kolodrum Plovdiv. It is the only indoor track not just in Bulgaria, but across the entire Balkan Peninsula. The nearest similar track is as far away as Austria; there is no other indoor velodrome in Southeast Europe offering such track quality.

The Olympic-sized cycling track is designed as an asymmetric ellipse, elevated one meter above the multi-sport court. It measures 250 meters in length and 7 meters in width, featuring banked curves that meet regulatory standards.

It is constructed entirely of wood, featuring a special "Northern Larch" surface—the fastest type of track surfacing—which enables competitors to set world records. The light-colored wood lends a cozy feel to the arena and harmonizes beautifully with the orange seating and the dominant gray color.

The track’s architect is the Dutchman Sander Douma, an officially licensed cycling track designer. Thanks to his work, the track meets the requirements of the International Cycling Union (UCI).

He designed the Olympic velodromes in Athens and Manchester, as well as multi-purpose sports arenas in Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Alkmaar (Netherlands), and Adelaide (Australia). Douma was part of the design team for the Athens Olympic Village and also worked on the construction of sports facilities for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
